Early Years Foundation Stage: Reception 2025 - 2026
Miss Gordon

Welcome to Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS - Nursery & Reception) at St Anne’s Catholic Primary School
A very warm welcome to our school community. Nursery is where most of our children begin their journey and join our school community but we do welcome children into our Reception class who have not attended our Nursery class.
We would like to introduce our team:
Miss Wendy Gordon; Reception teacher and school's History & Geography lead teacher
Miss Michaela Hall - Level 2 Teaching Assistant & Paediatric First Aider
Mrs Maguire- Level 3 Teaching Assistant
Also working in the EYFS department in the Nursery class are:
Mrs Volynchook - Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for EYFS, Religious Education (R.E), Collective Worship and Relationship, Sex & Health Education (R.S.H.E).
Mrs Volynchook is the lead teacher for Nursery.
Miss Hunter; Nursery teacher, Paediatric First Aider

In EYFS we learn how to learn! Our time in EYFS is so important, this time will help us to build skills that we need throughout our education and into our lives as adults.
Attending every day and being in school on time will help us to become the very best learners that we can be! Sometimes our learning might get a little bit messy. The adults working with us will always try to makesure that we put on aprons/protective clothes to suit the activity that we are completing. It is very important that all pieces of clothing and shoes are marked clearly with your child's name. It is much easier to reunite lost clothing with an owner if it has a name in it.

In Reception, we will be continuing the experiences the children have had in Nursery and developing their independence even further. During this year, the children will experience; visiting the local community, going on a school trip, taking part in PE sessions and getting to know one and other.
Whilst the children are encouraged to look after their belongings, sometimes bits and pieces go missing. If they are clearly labelled, we can return them to their rightful owners.
If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to pop in and have a chat.
Key EYFS Information
- Reception's PE day is Friday. The children should bring their PE kit to leave in school in a bag marked with their name. The bag will be sent home each half term to be washed and should be returned the first week back of each half term.
- Water bottles should be brought in to school daily. This should contain water only (no juice).
- Book bags will be given to all children. These should be brought into school on Wednesday and will be sent home on Friday.
- All children should bring a pair of wellies they can leave in school for outdoor activities and they can change into these at school. Some parents also like to send their child with an all in one waterproof suit (sometimes known as puddle suits)
- Activity money will be collected each half term and is £6. This is to provide the children with opportunities such as baking, playdough and additional resources needed to fulfill and follow the children's learning interests.
EYFS Weekly Awards
Children can earn stickers and dojos throughout the day in EYFS and on a Monday we have some special awards that will be announced on our Class Dojo page. These awards are:
Pupil of the week
Footsteps award - a child who has shown they are following in the footsteps of the teachings of Jesus.
SCORE awards - Self Esteem, Commitment, Organisation, Resilience and Excellence.
These are our school Core values and these values are personal skills and attributes that we encourage all children to work on and develop during their time with us here at St. Anne's. All members of our school community are welcomed, valued and loved and we aim to support every member, whether a child or an adult to be the best version of themselves.
Homework
This will be set weekly on Class Dojo and may include visiting the Purple Mash website, or other learning platforms such as Read, Write, Inc. Your child will be given login details for these - please keep them safe. In the event you misplace them, please speak to us or send a message on Dojo and we can reprint them. Ways to Support Your Child
Practising daily reading and sharing stories is a great way to help your children to revise the key skills they have learnt in school. Parents should refer to the Class Dojo page for video links of learning videos to review sounds as well as green and red words the children have learnt.
Regular reading of the books the children bring home is also vital for the chidlren to continually use the skills they are developing. Please also remember, sharing stories with your child helps them to develop their understanding of stories and is a great way to spend time together.
