What our children say about our Mathematics lessons...
KS1
What are our thought about Maths?
All enjoy Maths, like how there are characters, sometimes it challenge.
I like learning on purple mash and TTRS.
Our lessons start with a hook to get our minds going – like a warm up for the main part.
The main sheet is similar to the hook but harder and more questions and if you need help you can get it but if not then you can just work on your own.
Next you can get a StA task which is a challenge if you finish.
What happens if you are stuck?
You can ask a friend or ask a teacher.
We use base 1 and counters to help you find the answer easier.
Ticks if correct, or pink pen and you have to correct it.
What is your Favourite part of the lesson?
My favourite part is
…the part we do on our own because I love Maths.
…the main sheet because it can be hard and I have to really think.
…When we do our counting on the counting stick all together.
… the main sheet because it gets harder the further I get on the sheet.
What it and why do we do Quick fire Maths?
Its 3 questions and you can draw or write the answer
And the teacher lets us try on our own and then marks it with us – we mark our own.
What can we do to make Maths learning better?
Can’t do anything to make it better.
Teaching Assistant helps those who aren’t very confident.
KS2
What are our thought about Maths?
Yes because it’s fun and we get to use resources – extra things to help.
Yes because I like the types of activities that we do in it and we have to think really hard.
Yes because the lessons go really fast because I am having fun
Yes because you can ask your friends for help and what methods your using and can ask the teacher too.
Yes because it’s a challenge and I like to have to think.
Yes because it is fun to learn and I like working with others to find the answer.
Like it because its good education for the future and for life skills.
What happens in each lessons?
We do different topics and then different lessons in that topic that gets harder each day.
Sometimes we go over a lesson again if we have struggled.
The hook gets you started, warmed up for the independent so you now the type of lesson e.g odd one out and match me up (we all know what these are) – we have a go on our own but the teacher will help or give prompts if needed. Mark yourself with green pen. If you get the hook wrong, you can change it in green pen.
The independent task where you can try and do something similar but on your own. If you struggle you can ask a teacher or ask a friend. They won’t give the full answer but will give you a hint or a method to use. Sometimes we have dive deeper/StA task for those who complete their independent task. This is a harder challenge if you get the independent.
What is your Favourite part of the lesson?
My favourite part is
… the dive deeper as we can work with a friend
… dive deeper because it’s the extra challenge
…dive deeper because when I really like the lesson, I then get to do an extra challenge.
… independent after the hook because there are lots of questions I can solve on my own and there are sometimes lots of answers to find and we don’t know ow many there are.
What it and why do we do Quick fire Maths?
Little questions you have done in the past to make sure you remember how to do it, so you practice the method and not forget, a review of what you have already done to check you really know it, preparing you for the lessons.
What can we do to make Maths learning better?
We could have more equipment for other topics - we do use counters, have even more challenges
WE WANT TO DO MATHEMATICS - EVEN MORE, EVEN HARDER MATHS – but not too hard as some of the class might find it difficult.
