MFL Spanish

¡Bienvenido a las clases de español en St Anne's!

Vision Statement

At St Anne’s Catholic Primary School, we believe that the learning of a language provides a valuable educational, social and cultural experience for our pupils. It helps them to develop communication skills, including key skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing. The children’s knowledge of how language works will be developed and extended. Lessons will enable pupils to make progress in Spanish, and the linguistic skills gained will assist and lay foundations for further language learning. Learning another language gives children a new and broader perspective on the world, encouraging them to understand their own cultures and those of others.

 Our Spanish Ambassadors:

Key Stage Two:
Y3: Alice and Christina
Y4: Delina and Kiera
Y5: Freddie, Poppy and Sienna
Y6: Tilly and Sean

School Stories

This year we are finding ways to use our language skills to understand and enjoy stories in Spanish. In the Autumn Term all of the children in Key Stage 2 enjoyed reading Hola Sol, a story about a little boy excited to be exploring in the sunshine. We searched for familiar language and cognates and used clues from the pictures to help us understand the story. You can read it for yourself here: https://storyweaver.org.in/en/stories/594896-hello-sun?mode=read

Whole School Language Celebration

International Mother Language Day is celebrated on February 21st 2026. It was first established by UNESCO to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. We will hold a celebration of the different languages spoken by the children in our school.

Whole School Song

World Earth Day falls on Wednesday 22 Apr 2026. We are going to learn a song in Spanish about ways we can treasure and look after God’s greatest gift to us, linking to Laudato Si.
